How can a nightmarish thriller also be so humorous? Kyle Colbert is just your regular Joe who works in Manhattan, excited to get home to his family for Christmas Eve. He claims a 90-minute train ride to his charming upstate “Norman Rockwell” town is well worth the commute. Until he gets to his door to find his family aiming weapons. Then his neighbors try to kill him –and then the entire community. Everyone suddenly wants to murder Kyle Colbert. It’s not the Christmas Eve he’d been dreaming of.
From there, the plot races forward with a breathless pace, perfect for a movie. With everyone suddenly on the manhunt, there’s nowhere safe for Kyle to hide. Discovering there’s a bounty on his head, “$1,000,000 for Death or Whereabouts,” Kyle’s mind spins for any conceivable explanation. He has no choice but to try to solve the mystery as he stumbles onto an even larger, more lethal, plot.
The twists and turns are unpredictable, and the plot seems to morph into a different story half-way through, reminiscent of Black Mirror meets Die Hard at Christmas. Avoiding any spoilers, can Kyle stay alive long enough to solve the mystery and save millions of lives in addition to his own? This fast-paced thriller is a unique balance of thrills and dark-humored satire.
